As this is theDecember issue, we can now look forwardto the new year ahead and try and work outwheat to build and what to publish for you to enjoy. But first thereis Scale Modelworld to enjoy! So, did you enjoy the event? Did wemeet up and have a chat? If so, did you enjoy speaking to us andexchanging some ideas? What did you think of the competition -B“wasn’t ‘Best In Show’ amazing?!Preparing for the show is always a heady combination of expectationand fear; an expectation born of excitement that we will see excellentmodels, meet friends old and new and buy some of those treats thatwe’ve saved up for all year; the fear comes from trying to get everythingdone on time! As I’m writing this editorial, there is still ten days left to go,but I’m already feeling the pressure of having to complete this issue andalso prepare my models for the various displays that I’ve promised tosupport. It will no doubt be done - as by now you will have seen! - but thepressure is palpable, nonetheless…Scale Modelworld is a truly huge event. This year’s will have coveredall of the available halls, as well as the second floor that was used for thefirst time to house the model competition. Within the main exhibition hallsthere are the incredibly diverse range of club stands, Special InterestGroups (SIGs) and trade stands and manufacturer’s displays. SeeingModelling can be such a solitary pursuit and it’s oftenonly the local club or shows such as this one, that bringlikeminded individuals together”4MODEL AIRPLANE INTERNATIONAL -December 2015IN THIS ISSUE…thousands of models can certainly be a heady experience, but with time and no littlestamina, one can get around most of the stands to top up on not only the inspirationneeded to build another model, but also kits, tools and all manner of other suppliesto do so once suitably inspired! It’s also the place to see what will be releasedover the coming twelve months, Airfix in particular taking the opportunity to releasedetails of their exciting new kits. But what I enjoy most at these events is the chance to meet up with friends oldand new. Modelling can be such a solitary pursuit and it’s often only the local club orshows such as this one, that bring likeminded individuals together. Sure, there’s theInternet, Facebook, online forums and the like that can create a sense of community, but there’s nothing quite like actually meeting someone and discussing their workface to face to get the juices flowing. Laughs can be exchanged, arguments can behad, ideas passed on and models actually held and looked at in the round - it’s reallythe only way to see what the hobby is all about and how those around you enjoy it.This year will have been no different. Having had friends that I haven’t seensince last year stay over will of course have been a pleasure, but it is perhaps thechance to meet our readers for the first time as editor of this magazine that willhave been the most pleasing. As a modeller who is in the spotlight, being able tomeet modellers who are both readers of the magazine and fans of the work that weproduce, is definitely something that we see as an important part of the job. Oftenwe meet up with modellers who are shy about talking to people that they see inmagazines ands so it is great that we can reassure them that we are not rock stars, just ordinary people that are fortunate to be able to make a living from a job weenjoy. But trust me when I say this: I feel exactly the same when I meet someonethat I admire! So with Scale Modelworld over for another year, we can move on and begin towork on new models. I’m already planning some new builds that will include the newItaleri 1:32 Mirage III, Tamiya Mosquito and Trumpeter F-106, but who knows whatelse will cross my desk over the coming months. One thing is for sure: just as I amnow looking forward to what will be once again a memorable show with excitement,so I am, the arrival of new and hitherto unknown kits and other products that makethis hobby and my job, so wonderful.See you next time!his month sees us deviate slightly from the norm to bring youa reference feature, build and detailed look at the delightfulF-5B in it’s many incarnations. Forming the backbone ofcountless airforce training schools over the years, thechance to take a look at this aircraft was one that wegrabbed with both hands! Not only was it a chance to build the Kinetickit, it was also a chance to move away from grey jets for a while andlook at something carrying a little more colour - we hope that youapprove!Along with our look at the F-5, we are also wrapping up this year’sin-depth series of features on the Battle Of Britain with a look at thenew Airfix Spitfire Mk.I, we look at the spectacular F-16XL and classicSupermarine Scimitar in 1:48 and then wrap up our builds with a trulyworn out Sally in 1:72 and a stunning rendition of the Wingnut WingsFokker E.III in 1:32. Something for everyone we think! This then is the December issue of Model Airplane International -we hope you like it!TPICK OF THE MONTH…SPARMAX: BUDGET EXCELLENCE!airbrushes.comhis month I’d like tochoose a new airbrush andcompressor that you canpurchase from the AirbrushCompany. Offered as partof the Sparmax range, these twoitems, the Sparmax Max-4 airbrushand the Arism Mini Compressorare both superb additions to theworkshop. The Sparmax MAX-4 airbrushprovides exceptional performancewith even the smallest compressorsbecause it atomises well at lowpressures. The0.4mm nozzle is ideal when sprayingthicker or heavier paints whilst stillobtaining a fine level of detail. The Sparmax ARISM Minicompressor embodies thephilosophy of Sparmax: raisingperformance and rising aboveexpectations through continuousimprovement and unwaveringquality.
