STORM WARNING!!
Lightning & meteor showers are on the way.....
Firstly a new conversion set for the
new Airfix 1/72 scale Lightning kit
to back date this to the F.1 and F.3
versions, includes new top wing
sections, new smaller belly tank
and a new fin.
The wings have been done this
way to enable the wheel well to
retain the correct look with the
undercuts, a little simple
trimming of kit bottom wing
required. Smaller belly tank
supplied (this is hollowed on the
inside to minimise weight), once
again minor surgery required to kit
as well as the installation of the
new tail.
There is no excuse now for you not to build an early
Lightning now......................
Secondly a new conversion set for
the new Hong Kong Models 1/32
Meteor, this is to make some really
colourful U.15 aircraft. Three are
included on from Llanbedr, Royal
Navy and an Australian one from
Woomera. The total count of parts
will be more than that shown,
there will be a total of 20 parts
in the set as some parts will be
duplicated and there will be a
total of 8 Vortex generators
supplied.
More Meteor sets will follow
in time.

Time grants no Relief
I
am particularly grateful to Des Brennan this month for his superb
the Seafire) and that the availability now of so many fine kits really leaves me
no excuse for not building that complete line up I promised myself years ago.
Last time I tackled the Seafire there were no dedicated kits available. CMRʼs
resins had yet to appear, and Airwavesʼ conversions were fresh on the market. I
mangled a few Italeri and Revell kits and ended up with approximately one fin-
ished Seafire Ib conversion, which I painted in a bizarre colour scheme in an
attempt to depict the somewhat confusing markings seen to be applied on early
Seafires and hotly debated at the time. ʻGrey-Greenʼ it was meant to be. It
looked like it was made of soap.
Older, no wiser, and with less time, I wonder how far Iʼll get this time
round. Some of my friends advise me we are celebrating the equinox as I
write this, so one might suppose
the days are getting longer. But if

feature on the VC-10. We cover all kinds of pointy grey fighters and
interceptors, and the constant presence of ‘Supermarine’s finest’ is
almost obligatory if one is to remain competitive in the marketplace.
Personally I am drawn more by the ‘heavy metal’ element of modern air
arms, and it is this that first interested me in 1/144. Space, time, and the
simple lack of available kits restricts me to the smaller scale for larger
subjects, but these aircraft hold a fascination still, and the list of ‘kits to do’
became bigger by two after this issue, as Andy Hazell’s Comet piece has
reminded me how handsome that aircraft looked in military guise, so on top
of all the other modelling commitments I now have a hankering for classic
British military transports, and will no doubt be revisiting Welsh Models’
website and others with words like ‘Andover’ and ‘Belfast’ in mind…
But then Tony OʼTooleʼs piece on Seafires reminded me that
Westlandʼs 100th anniversary is coming up (they
